Zaha: My lil’ encounter with my hero left me gobsmacked

Wilfried Zaha is the idol of thousands of Crystal Palace supporters – but he was left dumbstruck when he met his own hero, Lil Wayne.

Zaha is a huge hip-hop fan who is a big admirer of Lil Wayne, the Deep South rapper whose hits include Mirror, Believe Me and Sucker For Pain.

In an exclusive video interview with Dressing Room DJ, Zaha admitted he got too tongue-tied to speak when he spotted Wayne while on a close-season holiday in Miami in 2014.

Zaha revealed: “I actually have met Lil Wayne, two years ago out in Miami. I listen to a lot of his music, so it was quite crazy seeing him.

“I actually just met him in the street – I was out walking and I saw him.”

The winger, who recently joined up with the Ivory Coast squad for the African Cup Of Nations, added: “I didn’t say anything to him, as I was gobsmacked that I was walking down the street and I just happened to see Lil Wayne. I was too star-struck to say anything.”

Zaha explained that he wished he’d been able to thank Wayne for releasing some of his favourite albums, including Tha Carter IV and Rebirth.

He said: “Lil Wayne has given us some amazing music. He’s brought out some classics, so I’d tell him that I hope he brings out more great music.”
