Manchester United players like all sorts of different music, says their dressing room DJ Ashley Young, but who does he think has the best musical taste?
The answer is surprising. It’s not as you might think some of the younger rap and grime lovers in the squad – it’s Michael Carrick.
“I have to say Michael Carrick. Only because we’re old. We go back to the old-skool garage stuff and that used to get played quite a lot in the dressing room, so yeah, Carra’s up there.
“Old-skool garage is something we definitely put on if we’re having one of those Throwback Thursday moments, it comes out now and again.”
The young players also get a mention though, especially Dutch forward Memphis Depay and English midfielder Jesse Lingard.
“Memphis or Jesse too, I don’t know if it’s because they like the same stuff as me but they’ve got good taste,” added Young.
He goes on to recall what former manager Louis van Gaal thought of his music in the dressing room. “The manager, when he first came in, I had a playlist on and he shouted Darren Fletcher over and was like, ‘I don’t like this’, so we had to change it and adapt to what everyone would listen to which was house and funky house.
“One thing we all agreed on was Waves by Mr Probz, so that was on a lot.”
