Clichy: the new tunes that hype up City

Manchester City’s dressing room DJ Gael Clichy presents an exclusive insight into the type of tunes he plays to get Pep Guardiola’s squad hyped up before games.

The left-back has given Dressing Room DJ an exclusive 12-track Spotify playlist of his favourite current songs. It’s a selection that shows the French international is as cultured off the pitch as he is on it.

There’s a flow to Clichy’s mix. Smashes by the likes of Migos mix with underground tracks by LA rapper Kid Ink and feminist hip-hop firebrand Rocki. There’s also room for Missy Elliott’s comeback single I’m Better, which is only the second song in nine years from the Get Ur Freak On veteran.

Clichy also shows just how much he loves the British way of life, with songs by grime staples Giggs and Lethal Bizzle.

Clichy is known for taking his decks on to the City coach to practise his turntablism, and he told us recently that he’s considering playing full DJ sets in clubs at some stage – though he’s fully focused on his football right now.

City fans will be celebrating after he stayed with the club after the transfer window closed. And his uplifting playlist is the ideal mix to keep that happy mood going, for both fans and Clichy’s team-mates.
