Danny Cipriani has named his favourite rappers – he reckons Drake, Kano and Lil Wayne are geniuses.
“Drake has the songs everyone listens to,” said Wasps fly-half Cipriani in an exclusive video interview with Dressing Room DJ. “Whatever the weather, whatever the flavour, he pulls out different tracks which are very enjoyable.”
Praising the worldwide No 1 success of last year’s album Views, Cipriani enthused: “Drake broadened and opened his music environment to everyone, because people who probably didn’t like Drake do now. So he’s done amazing.”
Cipriani is also a fan of Drake’s friend and former mentor, Lil Wayne. He said: “Another musical influence was Lil Wayne. He was probably my favourite a couple of albums ago.”
Cipriani went on to say that Wayne’s most successful album Tha Carter III from 2008 was a favourite, adding: “I went to Hammersmith Apollo to see that. His energy and lyrics in that, it just makes you think they’re geniuses in what they do.”
As for the British contingent, Cipriani praised grime veteran Kano, who won a nomination for Best Album at the 2017 BRIT Awards for last year’s Made In The Manor set.
Cipriani said: “Every track on Made In The Manor is back-to-back phenomenal.”
